-DAVID: It is still the issue of how do instincts develop and enter DNA for future reference?-dhw: I don't know where we draw the line between learned behaviour and instinct.... if I need to go hunting, I will have to be taught what to do. I would suggest that the ants' foraging is more like learned behaviour than instinct, and we know how well ants communicate.-DAVID: Are the new-born foragers told go find food like the stuff you've been eating? I don't think they learn on the job; not efficient for the nest. I'm still with instinct.-No. I am suggesting the young are taught by the old.
