Natures wonders: Dangerous fungus helps plants (Introduction)

David's comment: How does this arrangement take place, if at first the fungus is deadly? It has to be an immediate solution. Half-steps won't work. Back to saltation. Note all done by biochemical action. Can cell communities create saltation, unless given a mechanism to use?

dhw: My whole hypothesis is that they do have a mechanism to use, and for want of a better term, I call it intelligence. I do not find it feasible that God preprogrammed this symbiosis 3.8 billion years ago (all for the sake of humans), or personally intervened to show the fungus what to do.

My question was: do the cell communities have the intelligence to make the giant step all at once. You think so, I don't.
