Cosmologic philosophy: Egnor on Big Bang, etc. (Introduction)

DAVID: Your twisted thinking is beyond belief. My imagined possible previous BB's do not refute Guth's only point, our time started with our BB.

dhw: Of course OUR time started with OUR BB. But that is not what you wrote. Read it again:
DAVID: “there is no before before the BB. Time didn’t exist. This was proven by Guth, Borde and Valenkin by mathematics years ago, presented by my books and here.”

dhw: According to this statement, there was only one BB, nothing before it, and therefore no time before it. But you believe your God created our BB and may well have created others before it. And so Guth & Co have not, in your eyes, proven that there was no before and no time before our BB. “Your twisted thinking is beyond belief.”

DAVID: your usual twisting of statements. The bolds were written years ago, when I did not consider the possibility of previous BB's.

dhw: So you swallowed Guth’s so-called proof, and only now have you become aware of something you (and presumably he) hadn’t thought of – prior BBs. Therefore you should now agree that he did NOT prove that there was nothing/no time before our BB. […]

DAVID: New thoughts don't negate old sentences.

Of course they do!!! People used to say the world was flat. Then came new discoveries/thoughts, and so the old sentences were negated.

DAVID: we are now discussing an imagined set of previous BB's, each of which contained its own type of time. Guth's only point is unchanged.

Your point was that Guth had proved there was no before our BB, and time did not exist before our BB. You believe that God may have created prior BBs, which means there was a before and there was time.

DAVID: I can alter it to fit the current constant confusion on your part. Guth's says our time started with our BB and prior to our time time did not exist.

Yet again, YOU wrote: bbb“there is no before before the BB. Time did not exist. This was proven by Guth […] presented by my books and here.”The quote does not say OUR time started with OUR BB, but it certainly does mean that prior to our time, time did not exist. That is what you now disagree with, and yet you accuse me of twisting!!!! You have changed your mind, so why can’t you leave it at that?

DAVID: We can now expand that to mean in the interval from the last BB to our BB no time existed.

No we can’t. You are reverting to the equally silly argument that although you agree time is a sequence of before-during-after, there is no before during and after each previous BB. Even regardless of that, you are still agreeing that time existed before our BB (in all the other possible BBs), so you are still negating your original quote. Please stop disagreeing with yourself and have done with it.
