How reliable is science? Bias (The limitations of science)

This article says science is NOT self-correcting for bias:

This is the essence of my argument on the reliability and responsibility of science and those that practice it professionally.

What is the purpose of living? How about, 'to reduce needless suffering. It seems to me to be a worthy purpose.
