Complexity of gene codes (Introduction)

The mediator of bacterial gene transfer has been found. Where did it come from in the evolutionary process, out of thin air?

The developmednt requires the particle to appear. If virus-like it is not fully alive, but requires contact with the bacteria to be 'alive'. Then there is the issue of bacteria with a transferable gene and another bacteria with a need for that transfer. I cannot image how all of this fell together by chance. Just-so story anyone?
