MATT: Years ago, our fine Dr. friend asked me to read that philosophical work.
I now ask him to return the favor. It seems that a forester has uncovered some observations in his years, that I think directly challenge the core premise of the book I read.

DHW: Trees and other plants communicate with each other.

matt: I’m leaving this post blank because I think we should all return here when we finish the read. I’m only 3 chapters in, but this is fascinating!!!

DAVID: How do we read it?

dhw: Great to hear from you again, Matt. We have missed you! It would be helpful if you could let us know which core premise you are talking about, and how the book challenges it. If we have to wait until we have read all the books we ought to read, we will have to postpone all discussion for the next twenty years – and I don’t expect to be around that long!

I've read a long summary of the book on line. I'm not at all surprised by the discussion and his findings. I've presented a good portion of similar findings in my entries here previously.
It doesn't answer The Difference of Man in my view.
