Tesla\'s Collision with Philosphy (reply)

BBELLA: I happened upon this gem today. I've always had a thing for Tesla and thought this bit of info brightened him up a bit more for me. > Any thoughts? > > http://www.hinduism.fsnet.co.uk/namoma/life_swamiji/life_swamiji_tesla.htm > > Thank you for this, BBella. I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of Tesla, but it's fascinating to read about the links between science and Vedic philosophy, which I think Matt has also drawn our attention to in the past. With regard to the harnessing of Nature's energy, I wonder what Tesla would have made of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Clearly not what he had in mind, but I see that he died in 1943. Great finish to the article: > WHEN THE POWER OF LOVE OVERCOMES THE LOVE OF POWER THERE WILL BE PEACE. > They should plaster that all over every parliament and palace.-With Tesla, you need to understand his full impact...-He started working with Thomas Edison... and quickly learned to hate him.-Tesla's opinion of Edison was something like this: "If the man knew an iota of theory he would be intelligent."-Edison of course represents the basic character of American ingenuity: Shun science. Try over and over again, ignoring theory, until you find something salable. -Tesla's writing for Edison's obit: "He had no hobby, cared for no sort of amusement of any kind and lived in utter disregard of the most elementary rules of hygiene. [...] His method was inefficient in the extreme, for an immense ground had to be covered to get anything at all unless blind chance intervened and, at first, I was almost a sorry witness of his doings, knowing that just a little theory and calculation would have saved him 90% of the labor. But he had a veritable contempt for book learning and mathematical knowledge, trusting himself entirely to his inventor's instinct and practical American sense."-^^^That is by no means moralization on MY part. -Truth be told, at least at the US Patent office, Edison outweighed Tesla at ~1100 patents to ~110. Maybe "unintelligence" is smarter?-Still... great article. And I never knew any powerful philosophy from Tesla...
