Thank you. The 'how' it works is not complete. We know DNA change can drive changes but the mechanism is not known.

Not at all surprising. Other symbiotic and parasitic relationships lose DNA and co-opt some of hosts functions and metabolic output. As the article suggests it probably/may have a way of using ATP in the fish.
