However, as you are all aware I have a lot of catching up to do.-David, I know I said I would finish your book over holiday, but at the last minute I made the decision that I didn't want to bring a highlighter to the beach! >_< -That, and a book beckoned to me that I had long been meaning to read, "The Brother's Karamazov," by Dostoevsky. I had no idea the book was such a treasure of high and lofty ideas... many of which directly touch upon our discussions here. -No solutions however, but I have a much... MUCH better appreciation for the topic of "Christian Love" and the book itself presents a very excellently hidden discussion about science and truth that I found will help our discussions... though in some respects the trail might not be new. -The book was recommended to me by my teacher of the philosophy of Nietzsche. Nietzsche wrote of Dostoevsky "That [he] is the only psychologist from which I had something to learn." After you read Dostoevsky and then Emerson... I think you get a very DEEP idea on what N's philosophy is really about.

David, I know I said I would finish your book over holiday, but at the last minute I made the decision that I didn't want to bring a highlighter to the beach! >_<-My book is timeless as the brothers below. I read about them as a teenager.
>
> That, and a book beckoned to me that I had long been meaning to read, "The Brother's Karamazov," by Dostoevsky. -Delighted you are back, safe from the drug lords. ;-()

Welcome back. Glad you enjoyed your reading. I read Crime and Punishment many years ago. Meant to read the Brothers, but never had time before. Maybe I'll pick it up soon.

Let me join in the welcome-back chorus. We have missed you, Matt! -Like David, I devoured Dostoyevsky in my late teens. Great literature has the priceless advantage over philosophy of bringing moral issues to life while enabling its readers to experience them from different perspectives ... which we can rarely do in reality.-David, the core of your book is timeless, but science and even your own thinking have moved on. As unofficial President of your British fan club, I shall continue to campaign for a new book, or at least a revised edition! -And Matt, if you are going to write that novel, write it now. The world is full of authors who never quite managed to write their books.
