http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Jan11/factions.html-When we were forming our clinic, I looked at research papers on group formation. Doctors have huge egos and this is what was reported: up to five indiviuals will work well. The 5-14 area of growth is the most problematic. Egos really start to play a role, but above 14-15, egos are deluted out and the group survives. Our group get to 10 and fell apart. Some of us remained together, but never more than four. When I retired, my partner pulled in others whose groups had fallen apart, but he rented to them, held the reins, and now there are six working together with the benefits of a partnership, but he is the owner, and each earns his own income. It is interesting that group dynamics have yielded to math!
