This is one of the rare occasions when I find myself being grateful to Dawkins. You are right of course about the meaning of "agnosticism" (I did mention it in the section under that heading), but although initially I jibbed, I then accepted Dawkins' distinction between PAP and TAP. Not necessarily for the same reasons as him, but because we simply do not have a word for someone who hasn't made up his mind, and who still hopes for answers that will help him make a decision. "Agnostic" is as close as I can get - unless you can think of a better term. Fence-sitter, ditherer, waverer, shilly-shallerer: they don't have the same ring to them, do they?
