Somehow this discussion forum on Agnosticism appears to have turned into a madhouse obsessed with Biblical exegesis and Pseudoscience, and the posts are too rapid and uncoordinated for me to follow. So until such time as some semblance of sense returns, it's Goodbye from me! Perhaps the site should be renamed the GnosticWeb.

See the site below about monkeys and are they self-aware, an interesting facet of the debate on consciousness.-

Sorry man, I'd been doing research for my novel lately and B_M's posts just stuck me into a tizzy, especially with the suggestion of a true "worldwide flood." -At the same time, he perfectly balances my more materialistic agnosticism with something different. -Didn't there used to be a pastor or Christian guy here that dhw mentioned in passing a couple times?

\"Why is it, Master, that ascetics fight with ascetics?\"

\"It is, brahmin, because of attachment to views, adherence to views, fixation on views, addiction to views, obsession with views, holding firmly to views that ascetics fight with ascetics.\"

George,-Please don't leave on account of that. I have truly enjoyed the challenges you have presented to my way of thinking. It's good to have ideas from every side.

GEORGE: Somehow this discussion forum on Agnosticism appears to have turned into a madhouse obsessed with Biblical exegesis and Pseudoscience, and the posts are too rapid and uncoordinated for me to follow. So until such time as some semblance of sense returns, it's Goodbye from me! Perhaps the site should be renamed the GnosticWeb.-I hope it's only temporary, George, because your perspective is so vital for the balance of our discussions. I can understand the problem ... I too am finding it impossible to keep up, and so I'm focusing on the subjects that I feel I can make a contribution to. I certainly don't want to inhibit free discussion, but perhaps we can stick to three or four topics at a time instead of lashing out in all directions.-For those who joined the forum later, I have to say that George was among the very first contributors, as was David, and their contrasting viewpoints backed up by their scientific expertise and formidable debating prowess have been the two rocks on which this forum has balanced itself. Losing George would be rather like Wayne Rooney losing his right leg. ----

So until such time as some semblance of sense returns, it's Goodbye from me! Perhaps the site should be renamed the GnosticWeb.-I feel like this is almost entirely my fault. I do tend to be a bit spastic, particularly because I am not specialized in any one field, nor do I wish to be, and also because with the nature of my job, I have lots of free time to dig into different topics. I am truly sorry if I have been a disrupting influence here. That was most certainly not my intent. I have learned a lot here, but if I am the source of any malcontent or disharmony between a group that was obviously working quite well together before my arrival, I would much rather censor or withdraw myself rather than see the group fall apart. If discussing religious or gnostic themes is unacceptable, just let me know.

BALANCE_MAINTAINED: I am truly sorry if I have been a disruptive influence here.-You have actually brought new energy and new dimensions to the forum, and I'm extremely grateful for this injection of life, so please don't blame yourself! From my point of view ... and probably from George's too ... it's the sudden explosion of posts that has caused the problem. I've been logging on to find twenty or thirty new ones, and it becomes impossible to keep track, especially since even individual threads are being split into different discussions. At least two of my own posts have probably disappeared in the flurry, and we can easily lose continuity.-I'm not sure what the solution is, but perhaps we can all try to stick to one subject per thread, and only a few threads at a time. I feel very strongly that people should be free to raise whatever subjects they like so long as they are related to theism, agnosticism, atheism (which of course includes the sciences, religion, ethics, ontology etc.), so do by all means continue to raise religious topics. If no-one is interested, they will fizzle out of their own accord anyway. But perhaps we can refrain from posts that reproduce whole paragraphs and end in a single comment like WOW! It all clutters up the system. Let's make sure that each post either offers new information or genuinely develops a particular argument. Any other suggestions, anyone? -Just to repeat, though, B_M, I really don't want to dampen your enthusiasm ... it's good for all of us!
