PART ONE

DAVID: A designer God always designs for future use. That is what what I do.

dhw: If conditions change, then of course the new design will be for future use – i.e. so long as the new conditions remain in force. What is in dispute is your claim that the changes take place BEFORE the new conditions exist! I propose that organisms make the changes IN RESPONSE to new conditions.

Good design plans for current and future use, for variations in conditions.

First use of fire

DAVID: Minor adaptations are not speciation. You always infer one from the other.

dhw: I have stated that this is a “minor” example of what to me is an obvious sequence for ALL evolutionary changes: adaptations and innovations are responses to new conditions and new possibilities. It defies all common sense to conjure up visions of flippers and wings and straightened backs and legs just hanging around waiting for conditions to change so that organisms can or must swim, fly, descend to the ground.

Your common sense is agnostic. Animal parts don't hand around. God designs.

The weirdness of neutron stars

DAVID: The power of reason comes from accepting belief.

dhw: Sounds impressive, but I haven’t a clue what it means.

DAVID: Just as you have no clue about dead ends.

dhw: See the other thread for your dead-end dodging. Please explain how the power of reason comes from accepting belief. If Mary Jane accepts the belief that there are fairies at the bottom of her garden, how does that endow her with the power of reason? :-D

My belief creates a God that confuses you. You cannot, are incapable, to think about God as I do.

Evolution: problems for Darwin

DAVID: Same old verse: if God did it, He wanted it.

dhw: That was my line. Yours was that God did what was needed or required. I say that if God wanted to create the brontosaurus, his reason could not have been that the brontosaurus was needed for him to design us and our food.

No, your usual blind spot: bronto fit into his ecosystem at the dino level of evolution

DAVID: Everything in history, everything on Earth was created by God.

dhw: If he exists, then everything on Earth has sprung from what he created. But as far as I know, I was created by my Mummy and Daddy. God may have created the mechanisms by which my Mummy and Daddy created me, but that is not the same thing. He could have created the mechanisms for a free-for-all, and everything on Earth would still have sprung from what he created.

But not in His desired direction. Fron Gould "replay the tape of evolution and the result will be entirely different every time"

DAVID: You can't recreate a God that fits your non-belief. We ID'ers have a designer God we understand.

dhw: I have proposed different versions of a designer God which provide a logical explanation for all the dead ends which you can’t explain. You constantly and correctly remind me that we cannot “know” God’s reasons for anything, so how on Earth can you claim to understand him?

I accept Him, which means it follows that everything here and in history is His doing. That is my understanding of Him!!! You want deeper? How?
