PART TWO

Evolution: problems for Darwin

Most of this post has now been ignored or dealt with elsewhere. The only left-overs are:

DAVID: […] you really don't negate Adler's point that the appearance of humans proves God existence.

dhw: I have never tried to do so, but have merely pointed out that all forms of life are so complex that you and your fellow ID-ers regard them as evidence for God’s existence, and that our uniqueness does not mean your God designed the brontosaurus plus all the other dead ends as an absolute requirement for us and our food.

Same old verse: if God did it, He wanted it. Everything in history, everything on Earth was created by God. You can't recreate a God that fits your non-belief. We ID'ers have a designer God we understand.

Horizontal gene transfer

QUOTES: … archaea have integrons—gene exchange machinery previously thought only to exist in bacteria. This may allow microbes from the two domains to swap information and instantly acquire new functions.
When they encounter stressful circumstances, bacteria exchange these cassettes like mixtapes, plugging them into and taking them out of their genomes.

DAVID: it is widely accepted Archaea were the first life, so it is no surprise transferring integrons were there. Note my bolds. They are a way to fast-track evolution. It is a tool for a designing God to use.

dhw: One might also say it is a tool for bacteria and archaea to use – and your God may have designed it.

Of course.

Extreme extremophiles: phytoplankton under Antarctic ice

DAVID: the finding is not a surprise, considering all the harsh places life is found.

dhw: I must confess these posts fill me with wonderment. Regardless of one’s religious beliefs, it is truly astonishing how living things can adapt to the most hostile environments. As always, my thanks to you, David, for the flow of natural wonders. (Frozen frogs etc. are another example.)

The whole point is to illustrate a designer God at work.
