MIGRATION

DAVID: Again, glossing over the primary problems.

dhw: I’ve just said that I am not denying them, but I am proposing that migration may have originated through birds trying to escape death by freezing, and therefore flying off with no preconceived plan or preparation. The lucky ones survived to tell the tale and establish patterns to be followed by their descendants. I find this more convincing than the theory that your God invented winter and then taught certain birds where to go, how to get there, and what to do before they set out, because otherwise humans would not have had enough to eat.

Fine. We know you do not accept God.

Eel migration

David: I am aware of other articles concerned about the eel population loss for food supply.[/i]

dhw: None of these articles even mention our food supply.

I never presented those articles here. Why deny them?

(NB I have revised this section after first posting it.)

STROKE VICTIMS

DAVID: I can't answer the timing issue of God's writing DNA instructions. Initial instructions at life's origin are obvious, but He possibly stepped in from time to time.

dhw: “Initial instructions” for the evolution of the brain and its repairs, and for every innovation, lifestyle, natural wonder etc. in the history of life are far from obvious. I'd say flexibility and the ability to reproduce, cooperate and respond intelligently to environmental conditions must have been there from the beginning.

DAVID: Yes, put there by God.

dhw: I don’t object to that theory. My objection is to your insistence that your God planned or dabbled/dabbles every innovation, lifestyle, natural wonder, strategy, repair job etc. in life’s history.

God as the designer of life and evolution is my logical belief.

Fine tuning and alternatives

DAVID: There is a clear theory about our universe and how it formed/evolved. The Webb telescope searching our deep past will help us in understanding the whole universe. The author clearly shows, as you agree how we fit here.

dhw: No dispute here.

DAVID: An entirely different type of life could possibly be in the imagined forms of universes.

dhw: Or in unknown parts of our own universe. Thank you for agreeing with me.

DAVID: I disagree. Our universe is considered uniform throughout and therefore fine-tuned only for our form of life.

dhw: How can anyone assume that there is no other form of life even in our universe?

Our radio telescopes have looked for alien messages with no result.
