PART ONE

dhw: If your [ID] buddies ignore the theory [cellular intelligence], that must be because they don’t know it, or they can’t argue against it.

DAVID: Or because it leads to nothing.

dhw: The theory that cells are intelligent leads to a completely different explanation of how evolution has taken place from Darwin’s theory and from the theory that every species has been individually designed by your God. Not exactly “nothing”, is it?

You proceeded to ignore my answer, and moved onto a theory which somehow is meant to disprove the theory of cellular intelligence:

DAVID: You brought up cell intelligence, I didn't so I am discussing right on your point. And you've skipped over my point in bold and repeated: "No other organisms known can edit DNA like bacteria. As evolution progressed the ability disappeared because the advanced animals were equipped with adequate immunity systems! The ability was dropped after evolution left and advanced from the bacterial level of life. It isn't here.

I have no idea what you are trying to prove. Are you saying that bacteria were given the autonomous intelligence to solve all their problems, but their descendants had to be preprogrammed with every solution? The immune system works through cells finding ways of defeating their enemies and thereby building up a library of solutions which they add to whenever they mount a successful defence. The “ability” of cells to develop immunity is an extension of the bacterial “ability” to work out ways of defeating their enemies. Please explain how you can tell the difference between preprogrammed intelligence and autonomous intelligence in the actions of bacteria and of immune systems.

And by the way, the intelligent cell theory does not lead to nothing.

DAVID: [The theory of cellular intelligence] has never explained how cells came to function so intelligently, based on natural events.[…]

dhw: […] I have no objection to the theory that your God, if he exists, would have designed cellular intelligence. I will be delighted if you tell me you believe your God gave cells the autonomous intelligence that has enabled them to do their own designing.

DAVID: No, I won't.

I know you won’t. But I hope you will stop dismissing the theory on the grounds that nobody knows how cells could have become intelligent. That is on an intellectual par with saying life doesn’t exist because no one has ever explained how it came to function.
