Introducing the liver

DAVID: It is very clear you do not understand the import of the Cambrian animals with fully devolped organ systems that did not exist before them.

dhw: They did not suddenly exist “fully developed”, but they developed from simpler versions over hundreds of millions of years, as shown in your new example:

Development of neuropeptides

QUOTES:
"The big surprise, however, is that these molecules are also present in single-celled relatives of animals, called choanoflagellates. This finding shows that animal neuropeptides originated before the evolution of even the very first animals.[/i]”

dhw: So here we have the rudiments of the nervous system and the brain, which over “hundreds of millions of years of incremental advances in complexity” finally reached full development in the Cambrian.

No brains in the Edicarans! Sudden appearance in the Cambrian. But you miss the point I gave:

DAVID: this is a fantastic discovery. It shows that the evolutionary process depended upon precursors of biochemicals be developed long before needed in new applications (organ forms).

dhw: Hold on! We know it’s all biochemical, but we are told that these are precursors of particular organs. Of course the precursor of the brain did not need the same degree of communication that the modern brain needs. That’s evolution for you. As needs complexify, so cells respond with further complexification.

Show me the fledgling brain in Edicarans!

DAVID: The Cambrian animals are there in all their glory with no precursors, that fact you happily accept [...]

dhw: I do not “happily accept” that there were no precursors! That is your theory. Another theory is that the fossil record is – quite understandably – incomplete.

DAVID: Show me any current article from an expert paleontologist that says the fossil record is woefully incomplete.
A quick Google has provided the following:

4. Completeness of the fossil record - Digital Atlas of …

dhw: The reasons given for incompleteness seem to me to make perfect sense. Please explain why you do not accept them.

The last entry, if you looked, simply discusses paleontologic problems. These are opinion articles, and I agree with Egnor, a trained Ph.D. paleontologist.

DAVID: The continuous evolved life is the development of complex biochemistry which is the basis of all forms of life. Gaps are evidence of design.

dhw: No one would deny that complex biochemistry is the basis of ALL life forms. That doesn’t mean that ALL past life forms were preparation for humans plus food! If there really are gaps, these may be interpreted as evidence for design, but if we are descended from species without precursors, (or if our livers, brains and nervous systems suddenly appeared fully developed in species with no precursors), then you cannot claim that there is a continuous line between bacteria and us, and this contradicts your belief that we were your God’s one and only goal from the beginning.

As in the other thread, only a controlling dsigner can create the evolutionary history we have. Your contradictions in not accepting a designer clouds your analysis of my points.

B and T cell training

dhw: And that means that cells have varying degrees of INTELLIGENCE. Thank you.

DAVID: NO! Just varying abilities to learn.

dhw: I don’t know how it is possible to absorb information (clear use of the word!), process it, remember it, and use it at the appropriate moment in the appropriate conditions, and yet not have a degree of intelligence.

By being given intelligent instructons to follow.
