The Hidden Life of Trees: An answer to “The Difference of M (Animals)

Years ago, our fine Dr. friend asked me to read that philosophical work.
I now ask him to return the favor. It seems that a forester has uncovered some observations in his years, that I think directly challenge the core premise of the book I read.
DHW: Trees and other plants communicate with each other.
I’m leaving this post blank because I think we should all return here when we finish the read. I’m only 3 chapters in, but this is fascinating!!!

\"Why is it, Master, that ascetics fight with ascetics?\"
\"It is, brahmin, because of attachment to views, adherence to views, fixation on views, addiction to views, obsession with views, holding firmly to views that ascetics fight with ascetics.\"

How do we read it?

Great to hear from you again, Matt. We have missed you! It would be helpful if you could let us know which core premise you are talking about, and how the book challenges it. If we have to wait until we have read all the books we ought to read, we will have to postpone all discussion for the next twenty years – and I don’t expect to be around that long!

I've read a long summary of the book on line. I'm not at all surprised by the discussion and his findings. I've presented a good portion of similar findings in my entries here previously.
It doesn't answer The Difference of Man in my view.

At three (now16) chapters in, Ive been hesitant to offer anything, partly because at least in David’s case, I’ve read at least TWO book suggestions and feel some reciprocation is in order!
I’ll wait until I finish the work for a more thorough analysis, but suffice it to say that just as biology is being changed by epigrnetics, discoveries are being made about trees that move them into our own sphere of influence. They have memory and the ability to learn from the past.
Will they build The Hague? Unlikely. But the distinctions are being blurred.

I’m all agog to hear your conclusions, Matt. As you know, I too am convinced that the cell communities which make up plants and trees have their own form of intelligence, and this has profound implications for our understanding of evolution. But from the sound of it you will be able to add a new dimension to this hypothesis.

There is no question trees act intelligently. I'm not with dhw: I still view trees as following intelligent instructions

From where? Your 3.8-billion-year-old library of instructions passed on by the very first cells for every undabbled life form, econiche, lifestyle and natural wonder in the history of life, or initially created de novo by the arboreal cell communities themselves and then passed on to succeeding generations?

God delivered all information needed a the beginning or gabbled. I don't change.
