What you are missing is the innate plasticity of brain cells, altering themselves and taking over diffferent functions. In a recent paper fibers to the optic centers were cut and shifted to the auditory center and 'seeing' still occurred. The blind develop extremely heigthened alternate senses, but you knew that.

No, no. I've followed you. What you are missing is the innate plasticity of brain cells, altering themselves and taking over diffferent functions. Romansh is simply pointing out that the switching you're discussing doesn't have to be modeled in hardware. It can be done in software, and in my mind, without drastically increasing complexity.-I still hold that the current, von neumann architecture we use is completely ill suited for that task.
