That process is called natural selection. - We have no idea how cuttlefish appeared as a species. Natural selection says they arrived and survived so we can see them because they were exceptionally fit for the environment on arrival. You are back to touting Darwinism itty-bitty variation to achieve fully species-hood. Yes, saltation fits.
